Unlock the Secrets of 75 Billion Lines of Code with SearchCode?
SearchCode is an open-source code search engine for developers. It allows programmers to search over seven billion open-source projects and over 75 billion lines of code. The search engine lets programmers search code snippets, libraries, APIs, functions, and other content. It also allows users to filter code by source language and repository.
SearchCode uses a unique method to process queries: it runs them multiple times to optimize results and prevent cache rot. It performs the first query using the BM25 ranking mode, and subsequent queries are processed using the SPH04 ranking mode. This enables the website to save and prioritize cache-strength results. Queries are also run offline as an asynchronous task, processing the query and updating the cache. The asynchronous queue also keeps frequently run queries on top of the cache, ensuring fresh results each time.
Searchcode indexes more data than similar large installations because it uses the delimitation of source code. This method allows it to index data four times faster than comparable solutions. It also supports multiple languages, including Java. Its indexes are built on Sphinx, a popular open-source code indexing tool.
